CHOREOGRAPHER'S HOUSE

The project represents the Choreographer’s House at Lower Marsh site. I decided to interview people to get to know the place better. I asked them what does Lower Marsh mean to them, what do they need and what form of perfomances do they enjoy. Most of them answered that the location is lively and constantly changing. It encouraged me to focus my design project on the contemporary dance - evolving and vibrant activity.

The trigger of inspiration for dancers are movement, daily activities, surrounding area and people. Therefore the rehearsal studio is a transparent space where the people from outside can watch the performance. The building is surrounded by the fabric which contrasts with a concrete and adds fluidity to the house.

The house symbolizes a choreographer's daily routine. A place where they can sleep, eat, prepare and rehearse. Each space is visible from every angle like every dancer in choreography. The choreography usually is arranged in chessboard motif so as every unit is seen to the audience.

FOREST SCHOOL

The project represents the Forest School at Lea Valley site. It is the place where the children explore the world through nature and learn about characteristic for the site wildlife.

Lee Valley is a perfect environment for the wide range of planting and animals such as butterflies, birds and mammals. It encouraged me to look at the site from one of the animal’s perspective which is a fox. What intrigued me is a fox’s house based underground. It is made of dens and ramps. It is a place where they grow, hide and store food. Therefore I decided to design a place that is analogical to fox’s habitat.

The school appears as a shelter for the children where they can hide from the rain, rest, eat and play. It is surrounded by forest landscape involving local types of trees such as: birch, oak, hazel, ash. The forest allows for the various outdoor activities for the children such as construction, team building and woodland crafts.

The building is situated by the old railway path which creates a sensory walk that leads you to the site’s natural woodland.

THE REPOSITORY OF BRICKS AND BRAILLE

The project represents the Repository of Bricks and Braille at Little Britain which is close to Barbican site.
The Repository is a place where the blind explore the beauty of bricks using senses of touch and hearing.

The main inspiration for the project is the Roman Wall that was a significant factor in London's grid development and it states as an important landmark that connects the past with the present. It triggered the idea of the project that bonds ancient roman elements with the textural brick.

The architecture program is created in a view of the blind people needs. It should follow reliable rules and the essential, consistent clues.

The blind communicate by touch and hearing. The systems such as Braille's alphabet, talking books serve as different ways of reading things. The architecture language should be conveyed by the idea of graphic language, as well by soundscapes. It provides effective circulation spaces and it reduces the confusion for the blind.

The building consists of four main spaces:
Auditorium - it is made of four domes that differ in size and height, which contributes to characteristics of sound reflections.

Tactile workshop - it is in a form of twenty meter high tower inspired by a kiln. It is a space where the blind can develop their sense of touch.
Braille library- it is a brick wall with engraved books written in Braille system.
Repository of bricks - the access is through the ramp where you are able to experience brick facades of the existing buildings.

THE DESIGN SCHOOL OF LIGHT

The project represents The Design School of Light located on Bartholomew Cl, Little Britain site. It is an interpretation of Post-Pandemic Proto-Practice and An Interdisciplinary School of Design.  The school is the place where you can meet the beauty of light, colours and materials.

The building is made of six blocks that overlap each other. The main spaces that it includes are the auditorium, exhibition space, colour gallery, learning spaces, studios, kiosk and canteen with a cafe. The rooftops are covered with greenery where students have access to it. During the breaks, they can rest there, have contact with nature and enjoy the light projections by night.

At the end of a school year, students build light installation open to the public that can interact with it or watch it from step seats. The light projections are transmitted from a truss tower standing in front of the school. The projectors shed the lights on the school and site facades. The exhibition space, cafeteria and kiosk is as well open to visitors which can come to see the student’s work. The accommodation for students is located in existing residential buildings.

The building includes:

Ground floor – exhibition space, canteen with cafe, kiosk, patio, registry, technical room
1st floor – auditorium, small learning spaces
2nd floor – auditorium, studio 1, staff office, library
3rd floor – studio 2, staff office, storage room, toilets
Underground – computer room, store, printing, workshop space, VR, woodshop, metal shop, CNC/laser cutters/3d printing, photo studio

The environment in which we live has a great impact on our health and wellbeing. My focus for this project is to create a school in which students can enjoy their studies and where they can feel safe. The school offers a wide range of programme where students learn through practice and theory. They are free to create innovative design and present it to the public.

During the day the spaces use natural light what improves learning. At night the building uses projection lights that stimulate senses and they can serve as an inspiration for students.

The building sits next to the church and it is surrounded by brick facades. In order to highlight the materiality of the existing site buildings and to achieve the illusionary effects on the facades, the school is covered with reflective materials such as mirror, steel and copper.

The design concept presents the creative merging of site, architecture, art and light.
